Farmers clash with police in Sangrur, one person crushed to death by tractor-trolley

There was a clash between the farmer and the police during the protest on Monday. In which one person was crushed to death by a tractor-trolley and at least five policemen were injured. Some farmer leaders were taken into custody. The farmers had claimed that several of their leaders were detained on Monday from different parts of Punjab and some farmers were also detained in Haryana’s Ambala and Kurukshetra ahead of their proposed demonstrations. Farmers also laid siege to some toll plazas in Amritsar and Tarn Taran in protest against the detention of their leaders.

Security increased on the border in view of farmers’ protest

Security was tightened on Tuesday at the interstate borders of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in view of the protest called by the farmers. Security personnel have been deployed at all entry and exit points in Chandigarh to prevent farmers from entering. Officials told that a large number of forces have been deployed at Shambhu border in Ambala. This is the border of Haryana and Punjab. Barricades have been erected in Rajpura, Punjab and anti-riot vehicles and a CCTV vehicle have also been deployed.

16 farmer organizations announced the protest

16 farmer organizations including Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti, Bharti Kisan Union (Krantikari), BKU (Ekta Azad), Azad Kisan Samiti, Doaba, BKU (Behramke) and Bhoomi Bachao Muhim have given a call to protest here.

What is the demand of farmers

Farmer leaders are demanding a package of Rs 50,000 crore from the Center for the damage caused by the floods in the entire northern region including Punjab. They are also demanding compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for crop loss, Rs five lakh for the damaged house and Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those killed in the flood.
