Farmers in Banka are still hoping for rain, even after running the pump set they were able to sow only 10 percent paddy

Report: Madan Kumar

Dandy. Some farmers are doing plantation in Jitarpur Bahiyar village, adjacent to Chandan river. However, despite being on the banks of the river, the scarcity of water is clearly visible here. Young farmer Nakul Yadav says that for the last 15 days, he has been delivering water to the field with a motor, after waking up for the last 15 days, only then was it finally possible to get mud-worthy water. It took so many days to collect water in the field because the water has also disappeared from under the earth. The motor machine also starts gasping. More or less the condition of Bahera, Domuhan, Chhatrapal, Dada, Dudhari, Jamua etc panchayats is similar.

Now only 10.62 percent paddy planting

Due to lack of water, only 10.62 percent paddy has been sown. The fields are drying up due to lack of water. The condition of hilly and rain-fed areas is even worse. There are many such bahiyars too, where it is not possible to plant paddy this time. This time the target of paddy cultivation is 100824 hectare, in which according to the report of August 4, sowing has been done in 10708.92 hectare. The highest paddy transplanting has been done in Shambhuganj block at 26.42 percent and the lowest in Chandan at 2.50 percent. The climate of such areas is completely depressed and lying fallow.

expect rain in august

This time in July the average rainfall was only 131.6 mm. Whereas, the normal rainfall was 296.6 mm. Whereas in 2022 there was 92.9 mm of rain. Last year in August there was 100.5 mm of rain and so far this year it has received 33.9 mm. However, this month has just begun. If we look at the rainfall of the last four days, on August 1, it received .96 mm, on August 2, it received very good rainfall of 26.51 mm. Whereas, there was 6.33 mm of rain on August 3 and only 0.13 mm on August 4.

says farmer

  1. Prakash Yadav says that he does farming on the sharecropper. Out of a total of four bighas, only two bighas have been sown. The rest is fallow. Despite being on the banks of the river, there is a water problem. Earlier there used to be a dike, which has been filled up due to sand lifting and indifference.

  2. Nakul Yadav says that if he is a farmer then it is not possible to live without farming. Along with humans, the fodder for cattle also depends on this. But, this time the condition is worse than last year. Waking up for 15 nights, the water was brought to the field through the motor, only then the sowing of money has started. Everything is expensive. In such a situation, farming is no longer possible.

  3. Rakesh Mandal says that nine-10 borings were done here which have failed. The stone goes down. No concrete efforts are being made through the department. The condition of agriculture is worse than last year. Everything has become expensive. Fertilizer, electricity, whatever tractor you bring, it seems to be one or two.
