‘EVM, VVPAT is a big concern for everyone…’ said Jairam Ramesh – not getting concrete answer from Election Commission

Senior Congress leader and general secretary Jairam Ramesh has once again written a letter to the Election Commission on the issue of EVMs. Actually, the Election Commission had rejected the concerns related to VVPAT, after which Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote a letter in response. In his letter, Ramesh has written that the Election Commission has not been able to give concrete answers to the questions of the opposition parties and the concerns regarding EVMs. He wrote that time was sought to meet the Commission for discussion and suggestions on VVPAT but the Commission did not accept our demand.

Give time to the Indian delegation to meet – Jairam
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has requested the Election Commission to give time to a delegation of the opposition alliance Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India) to meet the Commission. He said that the delegation will be able to meet the Commission to apprise them of their concerns as well as present their views before the Commission regarding VVPAT. Let us tell you, Ramesh had written a letter to the Election Commission on December 30 last year requesting that a delegation from India be given time to present its views on the VVPAT slips.

The Election Commission had replied to the letter.
Earlier, the Election Commission had last Friday rejected the concerns of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on the VVPAT issue and said that no new claim or legitimate doubt has been raised which requires further clarification. The Commission had also said in its letter that the rules regarding paper slips were introduced by the Congress Party led government in 2013.

Ramesh shared the letter on social media
At the same time, Jairam Ramesh has also shared his letter written in response to the letter written by the Election Commission on social media. In this he wrote that instead of accepting our demand, the Commission has advised us to read the answers in the FAQ on the Election Commission website. Ramesh said that when we told that we were not getting answers in the FAQ, the Commission considered our questions wrong. Jairam Ramesh has said that the Commission should meet a small delegation of the constituent parties of the alliance and at least hear what they have to say on the issue of VVPAT.

It is noteworthy that the opposition alliance had held a meeting on 19 December. In which doubts were raised regarding the functioning of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). At the same time, the alliance had demanded that VVPAT slips should be handed over to the voters, who could put them in a separate box. The opposition alliance had also demanded 100 percent matching of slips and EVMs.
