EPFO, which comes under the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Government of India, has made this announcement by issuing a circular. This decision was taken by the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) has also been approved. It has been said in the circular that now the date of birth cannot be changed using the Aadhar card. Aadhar card is a unique identity card of any person. But, according to the Aadhaar Act, 2016, it is not recognized as a valid document as proof of date of birth. It said that UIDAI emphasized that Aadhaar is proof of identity, not proof of birth. Let us tell you that Aadhaar number is from the government. UIDAI Is issued by the authority. This is a unique identity card of 12 digits. It is valid throughout the country as proof of your identity and permanent residence.

Instructions were received from UIDAI

Under the direction of UIDAI, EPFO ​​has removed Aadhaar from the list of acceptable documents for correction in date of birth. The circular states that the removal of Aadhaar is related to Table-B of Annexure-1 of the Joint Declaration SOP issued earlier. Necessary amendments will be made in the application software of EPFO ​​as per the guidelines. Besides, necessary changes will also be made in the Internal System Division (ISD). EPFO has also directed all its zonal and regional offices to follow the new guidelines. Let us tell you that recently during the hearing of a case in Bombay High Court, the court emphasized that Aadhaar cannot be considered as proof of date of birth. However, Aadhaar card will still be valid as identity card and residence certificate in EPFO.

Here are the documents that are valid as proof of date of birth for EPFO

  • Birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths.

  • Marksheet issued by a recognized government board or university.

  • School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/School Transfer Certificate (TC)/SSC Certificate containing name and date of birth.

  • Certificate based on service record.

  • PAN card.

  • Central/State Pension Payment Order.

  • Domicile certificate issued by the government.

  • Medical certificate issued by the Civil Surgeon after medical examination of the member and supported by an affidavit on oath by the member duly certified by a competent court.
