Lucknow. Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that encounters have become ‘normal’ for people in Uttar Pradesh after Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in public. People in UP need to protest against these encounters. CM Banerjee attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government and alleged that they would send central agencies ‘if anything happens in West Bengal’.

Encounter is a common thing for the people of Uttar Pradesh

CM Mamta Banerjee says that “Encounters have become a normal thing for the people of Uttar Pradesh. The people of UP should oppose these encounters. If something happens in West Bengal, they (BJP) send central agencies. BJP is double engine… double standard,’ the chief minister said while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters.

Said a day ago shocked by the breakdown of law and order

A day before this, on April 16, the statement of the Chief Minister of West Bengal had come that I (CM Mamata Banerjee) am shocked by the shameless anarchy and complete breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. It is shameful that criminals are now taking law into their own hands unmindful of the presence of police and media. Such illegal acts have no place in our constitutional democracy.
