Electricity may become costlier by up to 40 paise per unit in Bihar, know what will be the new rate in which category

If the proposal of power companies to increase electricity rates in Bihar is accepted, then from April 1, 2024, electricity rates in the state may become costlier by 33 to 40 paise per unit. Electricity supply companies have made this demand in the petition submitted to the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission regarding the new electricity rate (tariff) for 2024-25. On the instructions of the Commission, the power companies have publicly published the new tariff and sought objections and suggestions from the common people and traders till January 15. These objections and suggestions can be provided to the Secretary of the Regulatory Commission along with proof by registered post or in person.

Announcement of new tariff after public hearing

After receiving suggestions from the people, the Commission will hold public hearings in five cities of the state including Patna from January 19 to February 2. After this public hearing, the Regulatory Commission will announce the new tariff rate for 2024-25 before April 1.

You can get a copy of the tariff petition by paying Rs 500.

A copy of the proposed tariff petition to increase the electricity rate is available at the power company headquarters Vidyut Bhawan as well as all the regional and zonal offices, which can be obtained by paying Rs 500.

Petition was filed on 15 November

Let us tell you that the transmission, grid company and the State Load Dispatch Center, including the supply, had filed separate petitions before the Commission on November 15, 2023, demanding determination of the new electricity rate for 2024-25. Electricity companies have based the increase on the increase in the cost of power supply.
