Electoral Bonds: Supreme Court has rejected the letter of SCBA President Dr. Adhish Aggarwal

Electoral Bonds: The Supreme Court has rejected the letter of Dr. Adheesh C Agarwal, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and senior advocate. The court has called the letter a publicity stunt. Dr. Adheesh Aggarwal had written a letter to CJI DY Chandrachud demanding suo motu review of the February 15 decision of the Constitution Bench on electoral bonds. CJI DY Chandrachud said that these are all publicity-related issues, we will not get into them. The CJI told Aggarwal that ‘apart from being a senior lawyer, you are also the president of SCBA. You have written a letter using my spontaneous powers. These are all publicity related. And we won’t get into that. He said don’t force me to say anything.

SCBA had requested the court

It is noteworthy that Dr. Aggarwal, while referring to his letter in the Supreme Court, requested to review the decision before a bench of five judges. To which CJI DY Chandrachud gave his disapproval. The CJI described the letter as a form of publicity and made it clear that the request would not be considered. In fact, Adheesh Aggarwal had told the court that industrialists may have to suffer losses if the information about donors and their donations becomes public. Due to this, political parties can harm them.

Order from SBI to disclose all information about electoral bonds by March 21

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court is strict regarding electoral bonds. The Supreme Court has reprimanded State Bank of India for the third time today i.e. on Monday. The Supreme Court asked SBI not to adopt a selective approach and to fully disclose all the information related to the electoral bond scheme by March 21. The Supreme Court asked for disclosure of all information related to electoral bonds, including unique bond numbers which would reveal political connections between the buyer and the recipient political party.

A five-member bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud said that there is no doubt that SBI will have to fully disclose all the details of the bond. The bench includes Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. The bench said that after receiving the information from SBI, the Election Commission should immediately upload it on its website. It is noteworthy that the five-member Constitution Bench, while giving a historic verdict on February 15, had canceled the electoral bond scheme of the Centre, terming it unconstitutional and directing the Election Commission to review the donors, the amount given as donations and the recipients. Order was given to disclose by March. with language input
