Electoral Bonds: SBI handed over all the data related to electoral bonds to the Election Commission

Electoral Bonds: All details of electoral bonds, including alphanumeric numbers, have been disclosed to the Election Commission, State Bank of India (SBI) chairman said after filing a compliance affidavit in the Supreme Court.

A five-member bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud had said that there is no doubt that SBI will have to fully disclose all the information about the bond. The bench also includes Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.

On February 15, the Supreme Court had canceled the electoral bond scheme.

The five-member Constitution bench of the Supreme Court, in a historic verdict on February 15, had struck down the Centre’s electoral bond scheme and termed it unconstitutional. The Election Commission is required to review the donors, the amount given as donations and the recipients. Order was given to disclose by March.

CBI had asked the Supreme Court to extend the deadline for providing information.

In a major blow to SBI, the Supreme Court on March 11 had rejected its plea seeking extension of deadline for disclosing information related to electoral bonds and asked it what steps it had taken to comply with the court’s direction. . The Supreme Court also refused to hear the petition requesting to disclose the details of electoral bonds sold from March 1, 2018 to April 11, 2019.

BJP got Rs 6986.5 crore from electoral bonds

According to the data submitted by SBI to the Election Commission, BJP received the highest amount of Rs 6986.5 crore since the implementation of the electoral bond scheme in 2018. After this, West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress stood at Rs 1397 crore, Congress at Rs 1334 crore and Bharat Rashtra Samithi at Rs 1322 crore.
