The story of party symbols and election symbols started in India after 1951.

Actually, the story of election symbol or party symbol in India dates back to before independence. At that time there were mainly only two major political parties. First Congress and second Muslim League. But for the first time in 1951, the process of giving election symbols to political parties and candidates was started. Because during this period India’s first general elections were held. Since the number of illiterate people was high in the country at that time, party symbols were used to increase people’s election participation. So that illiterate people can vote after seeing that symbol.
