Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar said on Wednesday that he would not forge an alliance with the BJP and would instead work towards bringing changes in the country in view of the Lok Sabha elections due in 2024. On the other hand, a poster has come out in which Sharad Pawar is seen with his nephew Ajit Pawar. Talking about the poster, it has been put up by the supporters of Minister of State Dhananjay Munde in Beed. Supporters put up banners of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, where NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s rally is going to be held.

Earlier, Sharad Pawar tried to dismiss those speculations. There was speculation that the Congress and the Shiv Sena (UBT) were working on a ‘Plan B’ to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections without the Pawar-led NCP faction. Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) are constituents of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

What did Sharad Pawar say

Sharad Pawar addressed the media ahead of his public rally to be held on Thursday in Maharashtra’s Beed district and said that the news of ‘Plan B’ (Congress and Shiv Sena-UBT contesting together) is wrong. No such plan is being made. Changes are needed during the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year in 2024 and that is why we are preparing for it.

I will not go with BJP

When asked about his meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who has aligned with the BJP, in Pune last week, Sharad Pawar said that he is a member of my family. If any function is planned in our family, naturally I will be consulted at that time. NCP president said that I will not go with BJP. To remove the unrest spread among the people in the country, we have to bring a change in 2024. We will do everything possible to bring about this change.

What signal did Sharad Pawar give?

There was speculation about the meeting between the NCP founder and Ajit Pawar on August 12 at the residence of businessman Atul Chordia in Pune. Referring to the split in the NCP, the former Union minister said those who left me in the past did not get re-election tickets. When asked about the use of his picture by Ajit Pawar’s NCP, Sharad Pawar said that we are preparing to move the court on this issue. Sharad Pawar indicated that his faction is at risk of losing the party symbol and has sent its reply to the Election Commission on the issue.

But, I don’t care about the election symbol, because I have contested and won elections on many symbols like bullock pair, cow and calf. Rebel NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar has approached the Election Commission demanding allotment of party symbol watch.

Criticism of Narendra Modi

Sharad Pawar criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of Manipur and said that Modi does not consider the situation in Manipur as important enough to visit that state. Sharad Pawar told reporters before his public meeting in Beed district of Maharashtra on Thursday that the Modi government has remained a mute spectator to the incidents happening in Manipur. The Northeast region is important and sensitive. More attention needs to be paid to the areas bordering China.
