Bihar government has started translocation of trees to continue the development works without any hindrance including saving greenery. After about three and a half years, as a result of this new scheme, the survival rate of trees is coming to the fore at about 40-45 percent. Most of the dead are old and big trees. These are such trees whose average age is more than 20 years. In such a situation, one may have to wait for a long time to replace these dead trees with new trees.

Transfer started in July 2019 from Patna

According to sources, the relocation of trees started in July 2019 from Patna city. Based on the study of the success of the scheme, it was to be implemented in other parts of the state as well. According to the plan, trees were to be uprooted from other places and planted on both sides of the R Block-Digha road in Patna. The estimated cost of Rs 379.59 crore was fixed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited. Later it started being used in other places as well.

Trees planted between JP Ganga Path and Gandhi Maidan-Digha Road

These trees have been planted in large numbers in the empty ground between the road leading from Gandhi Maidan to Digha and JP Ganga Path. There too many of these big trees have dried up. Experts say that in such a situation, the plan of translocation of trees seems to be lagging behind in its objective.

Trees had to be cut in development works

In fact, in the construction of roads, flyovers, big buildings etc. many times trees were forced to be cut. In such a situation, the construction work used to be interrupted without getting forest clearance. To deal with this problem, the state government started working on a plan to uproot the trees and relocate them.

protection of the environment is necessary

According to experts, it is necessary to have trees for the protection of the environment in the state. Work is underway on a plan to increase the state’s green cover to 17 percent. For this, tree plantation is being done continuously. At present, the greenery has reached about 16 percent.
