E-commerce Policy: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the proposed national e-commerce policy being prepared by the ministry is in the final stages and is expected to be announced very soon. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) had held detailed discussions on the proposed policy with representatives of e-commerce companies and trader organizations in August.
Work on national retail trade policy also
On a question related to policy, the Union Minister said here, the discussion at the top level in the government is in the final stages. Hopefully we will announce it soon. Earlier, the ministry had released two drafts on national e-commerce policies. The 2019 draft has proposals covering six broad areas of the e-commerce ecosystem – data, infrastructure development, e-commerce marketplace, regulatory issues, promoting domestic digital economy and export promotion through e-commerce. DPIIT is also working on the National Retail Trade Policy.
