Tusu festival, imbued with the spirit of prosperity, is considered a cultural heritage of Jharkhand. Apart from Jharkhand, this festival is also celebrated in Purulia, Medinipur, Bankura of Bengal and Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Baripada of Odisha. Although all the festivals of Jharkhand are related to nature, but the importance of Tusu festival is something else. This festival shows the importance of virgin girls along with nature. Similarly, this time in Durga Puja, like the Tusu festival in Ultadanga, Kolkata, respect for the environment as well as women power and self-respect is being shown in the Durga Puja pandal, where 200 small and big sized flowers are displayed inside and outside the pandal. Chaudal is being prepared. Chaudals ranging from four feet to 15-20 feet are being prepared. Not only this, the most attractive thing is that to give the message of awareness to the people about the environment, a puja pandal is being prepared with the help of 40 thousand thongs. Colorful thongs including red, blue and yellow are being prepared and a puja pandal is being made from them.

This is the 58th year of the Telanga Bagan Public Fort Festival Committee located in Telanga Bagan, North East Kolkata. Committee Secretary Amrit Sao said that Tusu festival is seen in the rural areas of Bengal, but through this Durga Puja, we want to show the importance of the working women of the city. Not only in Kolkata, there are such women in many nearby areas who are running their world by making thongs, hence the theme this time is ‘Autobiography of Prantik Shramjeevi’ (Prantjaner Autobiography). This theme is the concept of Gopal Poddar. The theme song of Lopamudra Mitra based on Tusu festival has been released. Music will echo in the puja pandal. Tonga, bamboo and ply have been used in the pandal.

Mr. Sao told that thongs have been prepared from newspaper papers. 15 women have prepared 40 thousand thongas. He also earned some income from this. Mr. Sao said that we want that plastic should not be used and people should use paper towels instead of plastic. With this the environment can be saved from being polluted. Puja pandal is being prepared with 40 thousand thongs, so that the thonga industry can be promoted. Colorful thongs will be seen inside the pavilion.
