Barwadda, Hiralal Pandey : In Chutiyaro village of Barwadda area, Durga Puja is being performed according to the old customs since 1947, the year of independence of the country. The villagers told that our ancestors had started Durga Puja by keeping an earthen pot. Earlier worship was done on a small scale. At present, worship during Navratri is done with great pomp in the grand Durga temple built in Chutiyaro village. For the happiness and peace of the village, the entire village is worshiped together in the Durga temple.
Kalash water is brought from big pond
Worship is done by keeping two Kalash (Ghat) in the Durga temple. In this, on the Saptami Tithi, a procession is taken out with musical instruments and an urn filled with water is brought from the village’s big pond for worship. Then the Kalash is installed in the Durga temple amidst chanting of Vedic mantras. Priest Radha Govind Ojha, Guru Purohit Ajit Kumar Mishra and Gaurachandra Pandey conduct the puja and Chandipath. Whereas Viranji Singh Choudhary, selected by the villagers, has been given the responsibility of priest (host).
More than a hundred are sacrificed
Chutiaro village is a big village. Here people are divided into three khoots (three gotiyas). First of all, three white goats are sacrificed on behalf of the three Khoots. After this dozens of goats are sacrificed. The sacrifice ritual of all three pegs is annual. It is resolved that under all circumstances, a goat will be sacrificed every year. The annual goat sacrifice does not stop even in difficult times.
Pua-dish is offered in the temple
During Durga Puja, village women prepare various types of dishes including Dehri, Pua, Malpua, Anarsa from ghee and offer them in the Durga temple. Here, on Vijaya Dashami, people from the entire village gather and immerse the idol in Bada Talab while dancing and singing.

Priests wear new clothes every day
According to the old custom, the priest (host) sits in the puja wearing new clothes every day. Every evening during the puja, dozens of women of the village sing bhajans and kirtans of the Mother Goddess in the temple. During this time, women from the entire village come to the temple to light lamps.
Following tradition in honor of mother
As soon as the worship of Maa Durga begins here with the installation of Kalash and Chandi recitation, the people of Chutiyaro village stop wearing shoes and slippers. Villagers say that in honor of Maa Durga, following the old tradition, we stop wearing shoes and slippers. Wear shoes and slippers only when going out somewhere.
