Dumri by-election: Congress has tried its luck 4 times, second in 1995 and third in 2000

Bermo, Rakesh Verma: Congress candidates have tried their luck four times from Dumri assembly seat in the assembly elections held since 1977. In the 1985 assembly elections, Congress made Ramdev Yadav its candidate for this seat. Ramdev Yadav came third with a total of 3,174 votes. After this, in 1995, Maqsood Alam contested this seat as a Congress candidate. Maqsood Alam had registered his strong presence here and stood second. The Congress candidate got 23,808 votes, while JMM’s Shiva Mahto, who won the election, got 36,408 votes.

8 candidates including Baby Devi and Yashoda Devi have filed their nominations

Excise and Prohibition Minister Baby Devi, AJSU Party candidate from NDA alliance, Roshanlal Turi, Independent, Baijnath Mahato, Jharkhand People’s Party, Independent Lailun Nisha Kamal Prasad Sahu, a resident of Birni in Nawadih, Abdul Mobin Rizvi, a resident of Hussain Nagar, Isri Bazar, from the AIMIM party and Narayan Giri, a resident of Junauri in Bokaro district, have filed papers. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is 21 August 2023. Voting will be held on September 5, 2023. After this, counting will take place on September 8.

Samata Party candidate Lalchand Mahato in third place

Samata Party candidate Lalchand Mahto was in the third place, who got 19,698 votes. After this, in the 2000 assembly elections, the Congress again made Maqsood Alam the party candidate. Maqsood Alam stood third in this election. He got a total of 14,498 votes, while JDU candidate Lalchand Mahato won.

Jagarnath Mahato contested for the first time on Samta Party ticket

The late Jagarnath Mahto, contesting the Dumri assembly elections for the first time on a Samta Party ticket, stood second, getting a total of 21,361 votes. Maqsood Alam, who contested on Congress ticket twice from Dumri assembly, contested the 1990 assembly elections as an independent candidate and secured a total of 13,760 votes by standing third.

In 2014, Maqsood Alam contested from CPI-ML

After this, in the 2014 elections, Maqsood Alam was made the candidate of the CPI-ML and stood 14th. He got only 959 votes. In the 2009 assembly elections, advocate Prasad Mahato was made the candidate from the Congress party. Advocate Prasad Mahato stood seventh and got a total of 2,286 votes.

There were three Muslim candidates in the 2019 assembly elections

In the 2019 assembly elections, three Muslim candidates tried their luck. In which AIMIM candidate Maulana Mobin Rizvi, JVM candidate Mo Shamshuddin and PSP candidate Mo Ahmed contested the election. In this, AIMIM candidate Maulana Mobin Rizvi got 24,132 votes, JVM candidate Mo Shamshuddin got 1283 votes and PSP candidate Mo Ahmed got 557 votes. This time again Maulana Mobin Rizvi is in the fray as an AIMIM candidate, whereas in the 2014 assembly elections, Mobin Rizvi was the JDU candidate and secured a total of 16,730 votes while standing third.
