Under the goal of creating an economy, such initiatives have been taken in the new tourism policy-2022 and a proposal is expected to be brought in this regard in the cabinet meeting very soon.

There are many places associated with royal glamor and cultural heritage.

Uttar Pradesh’s Principal Secretary (Tourism and Culture) Mukesh Kumar Meshram told that there are very attractive places in Uttar Pradesh which make marriage memorable through royal chic and cultural heritage. While the Taj Mahal of Agra is a symbol of love, Mathura-Vrindavan is considered the city of spiritual love. He said, “From the Chunar Fort to the ‘Mastani Mahal’ of Mahoba associated with the immense love of Bajirao-Mastani, and various forts in Bundelkhand can also emerge as popular ‘destination weddings’. We are going to develop these palaces and forts as ‘Wedding Tourism Destinations’ so that people can tie the knot at the places that witness the unending saga of love.

2500 crore business was done in UP before Kovid

About 40 thousand ‘destination weddings’ took place in Rajasthan between November 2022 and March 2023. Such weddings used to generate an average business of Rs 2,500 crore in a season in the state, which was affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, now it is slowly coming back on track. The tourism department estimates that a large number of domestic and foreign tourists have been coming to Agra and Varanasi to make their marriage memorable. But, since the knock of Kovid-19, the inflow of foreign tourists has decreased in the state and the attraction of ‘destination wedding’ has also decreased.

100 places will be developed as matrimonial tourist destination

The Principal Secretary said, “Now the situation is returning to normal. In such a situation, the department has identified 100 places in the state to be developed as ‘marriage tourism places’. However, by next year, ‘Destination Wedding’ facility will be made available mainly at 10 historical-mythological places including Chunar Fort of Mirzapur, Chattar Manzil of Lucknow, Jal Mahal of Barsana and Barua Sagar of Jhansi.

Forts and palaces turned into ruins will get a new identity

Meshram said, “We are ready to present this proposal before the cabinet. Under this PPP (Public-Private Partnership) based proposal, the forts, palaces and heritage sites lying in ruins due to neglect will be developed as ‘marriage tourism destinations’ without making any changes to the original architecture.” The intention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is to preserve the heritage of Uttar Pradesh, especially Bundelkhand, as well as increase their contribution to the economy.

Wedding tourist places center of attraction in many places

A Deputy Director of the Tourism Department said, “Not only in Rajasthan, but in other states also many wedding tourist places have become the center of attraction. For example, there are many marriages in forts and palaces in Orchha of Madhya Pradesh. Many a times couples also choose the nearby Barua Sagar Fort for ‘Destination Wedding’ if bookings are not available on the desired date. He said, “It is told about the Barua Sagar fort, spread over seven and a half acres on the Jhansi-Khajuraho road, that the queen of Jhansi used to hold her court here during the summer.”

Industries will get a boost, new jobs will be created
