On the day of Diwali, before Lakshmi Puja, light a lamp at the main entrance of the house. If there is a courtyard in the house, then keep a lamp lit in the courtyard.
If there is no courtyard in your house then you can light a lamp in the drawing room or in the middle of the house. It is considered auspicious to do so.
A lamp must be lit in the north-east corner of the house i.e. northern and eastern parts. Actually, God resides in these places.

It is said that on the day of Diwali, a lamp should also be kept in a neighbor’s house. Doing this is considered a good omen.
Light a lamp at any intersection near your house on Diwali. By doing this the problems related to money go away.
On the day of Diwali, light a lamp in a temple near your house. It is said that by doing this God’s blessings remain and one gets mental peace.
Light a lamp in the Tulsi square of the house also on the day of Diwali. By doing this happiness and prosperity remains.
