Digital India Act: When will Modi government bring Digital India Act? IT Minister said this

IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Digital India Act: The world is troubled at this time due to the ill effects of AI and deep fake videos. Along with many countries around the world, India is also worried about this. Meanwhile, Minister of State for IT Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that all these problems will be included under the Digital India Act. Let us tell you that this new Act will replace the current IT Act.

Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrashekhar has said that the government will not implement the Digital India Act before the next general elections, as there is not much time left for wide-scale deliberations on it. The purpose of implementing this Act is to replace the 23 year old IT Act 2000.

At the ‘Global Technology Summit 2023’, the minister said that the rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act will be presented for discussion later this month. These are expected to be notified by the end of December or beginning of January.

Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar said the Digital India Act (DIA) will resolve any asymmetrical relationship between big tech companies and startups to prevent distortion of the things startups want to do on the internet.

Chandrashekhar said that there is no word Internet in the current IT Act. There is general consensus that it (the old Act) can be safely removed and replaced. According to the PTI language report, he said, the successor act is called the Digital India Act, work on which is in progress. We have the draft ready and a lot of work has been done on it.

The minister said, I doubt that we will be able to make a law on this before the next elections because one of the things that the Prime Minister is emphasizing is that we need to have a large-scale consultation on every digital law. So, I don’t think we have enough time for that. The proposed Digital India Act (DIA) has given more attention to online platforms.
