Deoghar: Dengue test becomes a new source of income for private clinics, 38 patients found in 3 months, income crosses Rs 4.5 crore

Deoghar News: Cases of dengue and chikungunya are continuously being reported in Deoghar district. There is no facility of ELISA test for this in the district. It is noteworthy that the health department collects samples of suspected patients and sends them to Ranchi for testing. Hundreds of patients reach private hospitals and clinics every day with complaints of fever, body pain etc. Doctors advise such patients to get tested for dengue and from there the game of earning money for private pathology begins. In the name of dengue testing, private labs are charging crores of rupees from people. Actually, this question is also being raised because at present on an average 600 people are being tested for dengue in pathology every day. Out of these, in the last three months, till now the test reports of only 187 patients have been found positive. Considering him suspicious, the health department took his sample and sent him to Ranchi for testing, from where till now the test reports of only 38 people have been found to be dengue positive. Overall, not even 1% of pathology test reports in the district are coming positive.

Mathematics of recovery of crores

It is noteworthy that there are about 100 private pathology testing centers operating in the district. Where about six to seven people are tested for dengue every day. In such a situation, on an average 600 people are tested daily and the lab charges Rs 800 to Rs 1000 from each patient for dengue test. If added to the average of Rs 900, then for testing 600 people daily, private labs are charging an average of Rs 5,40,000 from patients. This figure is reaching Rs 1,62,00,000 in a month. In such a situation, it can be said that private labs are charging an average of Rs 1.5 crore from people in a month in the name of dengue testing.

Doctors also have a hand in the earnings of private clinics

In about 100 pathology centers operated in Deoghar, 600 people are examined every day, out of which seven to eight people are diagnosed with dengue. That is, one percent of the people are declared to have dengue and this information is given to the health department. For about three months, dengue testing has become a major source of additional income for private clinics and pathology. Big money is being made in the name of investigation. For this, doctors are also engaged in increasing their profits by constantly prescribing dengue tests to patients in the greed of commission.

So far 38 positive in 114 samples tested

According to the Health Department, after testing 187 people for dengue by private hospitals and pathology centers in the district since July, the report was sent to the Health Department declaring them positive. After this, the Health Department sent a team to investigate 114 probable cases and the suspected patients were again sampled for ELISA test and sent for investigation. So far only 38 people have been declared positive, while some sampling has been done, the report of which will come on Wednesday. In the investigation report, out of 38 people who came positive, 29 people from Deoghar district have been diagnosed with dengue, out of which 10 people have also been diagnosed with Chikungunya. Nine people from other districts and states have been diagnosed with dengue and two of them have been diagnosed with dengue and chikungunya. For this reason, the Health Department does not consider the tests being done through kits in pathology centers as dengue patients.

As soon as they hear the name of fever, doctors order tests for dengue and malaria.

These days, on hearing the name of fever among the people coming for treatment, doctors first advise to get dengue, malaria, chikungunya, CBC, MP, Vidal along with CPR and CRP tests done. Also, it is said to prescribe any medicine only after the test report comes. Only fever medicine is given to the patient. In such a situation, patients have to undergo all types of tests in every situation. Patients spend around Rs 3500 to 4000 on all these types of tests.

Dengue test is done for 800 to 1000 rupees

Dengue testing is done through kits in private pathology centres. For this, pathology specialists are charging eight hundred to one thousand rupees from the patients. A pathology operator, on the condition of anonymity, said that IgE, IgM, and NS One are tested for dengue through the kit. Eight hundred to one thousand rupees are charged for this. In this, along with the purchase of the kit, commission is also given at many other places. At the same time, questions are being raised regarding the different rates of testing. Apart from this, if ELISA test is to be done outside then around Rs 1500 to 1700 is being charged.
