Demand for TATA’s EVs increased, a lot of demand is coming from small towns, emphasis on strengthening sales infrastructure

Tata Motors To meet its growing demand, it is looking to expand its sales infrastructure in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. A top official of the company said that the demand for electric vehicles is increasing from these places.

About 19,000 electric vehicles were sold in the first quarter

The company sold around 19,000 electric vehicles in the first quarter of the current fiscal and is looking to set up a separate sales infrastructure for its electric vehicle portfolio going forward. In an interaction with analysts, Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said that demand for EVs is now growing beyond the top 20 cities in the country.

He added that more than 49 per cent of Tiago EV sales are now coming from cities other than the top 20 cities. Chandra said, “Hence, we have started expanding our network in those smaller cities. Along with expanding in these cities, we are also building service capacity. Also, engineers are being trained for those service stations.” He also said that the company may consider separating EV showrooms from existing sales outlets to meet the needs of customers across the country.
