Delhi Pollution: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday said the government has identified eight more such areas in addition to the existing 13 most polluted areas in the national capital and special teams will be deployed to curb the sources of pollution. After a meeting with 28 departments to effectively implement pollution reduction measures in the national capital, Rai said the government has decided to use dust suppression powder to curb dust pollution.
Delhi’s air quality fell into the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday for the first time since May. The main reason for this is the drop in temperature and decrease in wind speed due to which pollutants accumulate. Minister Gopal Rai said in a press conference, “Apart from the existing most polluted areas in Delhi, we are focusing on eight more places where the AQI (air quality index) is more than 300 points. These places include Shadipur, ITO, Mandir Marg, Nehru Nagar, Patparganj, Sonia Vihar, Dhyan Chand Stadium and Moti Bagh.
He said special teams would be deployed at eight locations to identify the sources of pollution and corrective measures would be taken in collaboration with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. Gopal Rai also said that the District Magistrates have been instructed to conduct field inspection on October 25 and have been asked to ensure that measures to reduce pollution are strictly implemented. He said, “Instructions have also been given to use dust suppressant powder in ‘anti-smog guns’ to prevent dust pollution. Anti-dust campaign will be intensified and more field inspections will be conducted.”
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday directed the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi government to ensure proper cleanliness and work on war footing to prevent mosquito breeding. He termed the increasing cases of dengue in the national capital and the resulting increase in the number of patients in hospitals as ‘worrying’.
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena posted on social media platform ‘(I) have spoken to the Chief Secretary, NDMC Chairman, MCD Commissioner and Secretary (Health) of Delhi Government and asked them to ensure proper cleanliness and work on war footing to prevent mosquito breeding.” He said. Appealed to take necessary precautionary measures.
The Lieutenant Governor wrote, “(I) have also asked them (top officials) to ensure proper facilities in dispensaries and hospitals. I appeal to the people to take all necessary precautionary measures.” When asked about Saxena’s social media post, Mayor Shaili Oberoi said in the press conference that a high-level meeting of the concerned departments will be held soon to take stock of the situation.
