Delhi Excise Policy Case: Apart from his arrest, Arvind Kejriwal had also challenged his being sent to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate. After ED’s custody, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal was sent to judicial custody till April 15 and currently he is lodged in Tihar Jail.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has no privileges: High Court

While giving the verdict, Delhi High Court said, no privilege can be given to anyone. Judges are bound by law, not by politics. Decisions are written based on legal principles, not political affiliations.

Court said, ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal in money laundering case

While reading the decision, Delhi High Court said, ED has arrested Arvind Kejriwal in money laundering case. ED had enough material due to which they had to arrest Kejriwal. Kejriwal’s non-participation in the investigation and the delay caused by him also affected the people in judicial custody.

Arvind Kejriwal had raised questions on the timing of his arrest

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had questioned the timing of his arrest by the agency. He had said that this is a violation of the basic structure of the Constitution including democracy, fair elections and equal opportunity. Here, ED opposed the petition and argued that Kejriwal cannot claim exemption from arrest on the basis of elections because the law applies equally to him and any common citizen.

ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21

ED had arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in a money laundering case related to the excise policy scam. The AAP leader was sent to judicial custody on April 1 after being produced in the lower court after the ED custody period ended. The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Excise Policy of the Delhi Government for 2021-22. This policy has been cancelled.
