Delhi Excise Policy Case: Why did ED interrogate Kailash Gehlot?

Kailash Gehlot was part of the Group of Ministers along with former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and former Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain for the preparation and implementation of the new liquor policy for 2021-22. The ED has also alleged in its charge sheet that Gehlot had the same SIM number but his IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) was changed thrice. The ED has mentioned Gehlot’s name in its charge sheet and in the context of AAP communication in-charge Vijay Nair, who was arrested earlier in the case, said that Nair lived in a government bungalow allotted to Gehlot. Gehlot lives in Najafgarh in South West Delhi.

ED investigating bribery case of Rs 100 crore

ED has alleged that under the excise policy, South Group paid a bribe of Rs 100 crore to AAP and its leaders in exchange for the license of liquor business. The ‘South Group’ included the poetry of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader. This case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the preparation and implementation of the Excise Policy of the Delhi Government for 2021-22. The controversial excise policy of the Delhi government was later cancelled.

Delhi LG VK Saxena had recommended a CBI inquiry.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the liquor policy. After this the ED registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In this case, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were earlier arrested by ED and they are in judicial custody. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21 in a money laundering case and is in custody till April 1.
