Delhi Assembly session extended by one day, four BJP MLAs expelled from the house after ruckus

Delhi Assembly Session: On the second day of the special session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, echoes of Manipur were heard in the house. As soon as the discussion on the Manipur issue started, the opposition parties started raising slogans against the central government. There was a lot of uproar between the MLAs of BJP and Aam Aadmi Party. While the Aam Aadmi Party opposed the government’s stand on the Manipur issue, the BJP opposed the opposition’s attack on the issue. However, the session will continue on Friday after members of the Delhi Assembly voted in favor of extending the proceedings by a day.

First session of Vidhansabha after GNCTD (Amendment) Act 2023 came into force

The two-day session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly began on Wednesday. This is the first session of the Vidhan Sabha after the GNCTD (Amendment) Act 2023 came into force for the control of services in the national capital. Four Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs were evicted by marshals during the proceedings of the Delhi Assembly on Thursday for opposing the discussion on Manipur issue. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Durgesh Pathak initiated a short-lived discussion on the violence in the northeastern state, following which BJP MLAs stood up in protest and said that issues related to Delhi should be debated in the House. Deputy Speaker Rakhi Bidhlan questioned the protest by the BJP MLAs, saying, “Do they think there is no issue to be discussed in the Manipur Assembly? The Manipur issue was also discussed in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

The BJP legislators continued their protest following which four of them – Abhay Verma, Jitendra Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar and OP Sharma – were escorted out of the House with the help of marshals. As the uproar escalated, Pathak said that it is unfortunate that the BJP does not want to discuss the issue. AAP MLAs led by Pathak also raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
