DDU: 60% seats vacant in rural college, students not showing interest in taking admission

Gorakhpur: Along with Deendayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, its affiliated colleges are also facing a lot of struggle for admission in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Talking about colleges in rural areas, despite starting the admissions since last two months, 60% of the undergraduate seats in the colleges are still vacant. College students from rural areas are waiting for the students. However, the condition of colleges in urban areas is still better than rural areas. Out of 350 colleges affiliated to Gorakhpur University, 300 colleges are in rural areas only.

At the same time, despite all the publicity of the college, admissions are not being made in postgraduate courses. Due to students not taking admission in colleges in rural areas, many colleges are on the verge of closure. According to college managers, at present students are giving preference to employment oriented courses. This is the reason why the interest of the youth is less here, due to which they are not taking admission in college. The college management also believes that the main reason for this is the implementation of the semester system under CBCS. While fees have increased due to CBCS, classes and examinations are going on throughout the year.

Due to regular classes and examinations, students are not able to study while doing employment. Due to increase in fees, many poor students are not able to take admission. Earlier students used to study while doing employment. But due to regular examinations and classes, he is hesitant in taking admission. Earlier students had to deposit fees once a year. But with the implementation of CBCS, they have to pay fees twice. Have to register twice. For which registration fee has to be paid twice instead of once. Which is becoming the reason for not taking admission.

Before the year 2018, the examination of students was held at the same center in which the students studied. After that the arrangements changed and separate examination centers started being built for every college. Due to the examination centers being at distant and difficult places in rural areas, the interest of youth in taking admission in colleges in rural areas started decreasing. This greatly affected the admission of students. The college management has to bear the brunt of this every year. This is also becoming a major reason for the decline in college admissions.

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rai, General Secretary of the Self Financed College Manager General Assembly, said that due to students not taking admission in colleges in rural areas, many colleges are on the verge of closure. He said that CBCS was implemented in the colleges without any preparation. The biggest reason for this is to go. Making the examination center in another college is also a reason for this. He said that he will soon meet the Vice-Chancellor of the University to demand facilities in this regard.

Professor Poonam Tandon, Vice-Chancellor of Gorakhpur University, told that the problem of low admission in colleges in rural areas is a big one. A meeting will be held with the managers of the college regarding the reason for this and every point will be discussed. He told that every possible effort will be made to increase the admission in the college and increase the interest of the students. A solution will also be found regarding the examination center which will provide convenience to the students.
