Cyclone Michaung: Cyclonic storm Michong has weakened and transformed into a low pressure area. Due to the formation of a low pressure area, it is raining heavily in the southern areas of Odisha today i.e. on Wednesday. Due to heavy rains, Gajapati district administration announced closure of all the schools in the district. The India Meteorological Department said that Cyclonic Storm Michong weakened and centered about 50 km east-northeast of Khammam, 110 km north-northwest of Vijayawada and 250 km south-west of Jagdalpur at 5.30 am on Wednesday. The National Weather Agency has said that this storm will weaken further in the coming times. The Meteorological Department estimates that due to the cyclone, there may be heavy rain in many other districts of Odisha including Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.

Michong turns into low pressure area

Earlier, after causing devastation in some parts of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, Cyclonic Storm Michong had weakened and turned into a low pressure area. The Meteorological Department official said that as the weather system moves northwards, it may turn into a very low pressure area in the next few hours. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagar, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Konaseema and Eluru districts under the influence of the low pressure area. The department said that it is cloudy in many parts of the state.

Due to cyclonic storm Michong, it has been raining in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand since Wednesday morning. Apart from this, there are chances of light to moderate rain in South Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal along with heavy rain at some places. Light to moderate rain has occurred in East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, East Telangana, North Coast of Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are receiving moderate rain at one or two places along with light rain.

Winter intensifies in Kashmir
There is heavy rain in South India due to Cyclonic Storm Michong, while the cold has increased in North India. Due to increasing cold in the valley, the minimum temperature in entire Kashmir has reached below the freezing point. The Meteorological Department says that the minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was recorded at minus two degrees Celsius, whereas last night it was minus 1.4 degrees Celsius. Officials said the minimum temperature in Gulmarg in Baramulla district was recorded at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at minus two degrees Celsius, which was minus 1.6 degrees Celsius last night.
