Increase in black fungus patients

There was a sudden decline in the immunity of many patients during Covid. Such patients had to face black fungus. This has been revealed in the research of Dr. Geeta Yadav, Additional Professor of KGMU Pathology Department. This research report was given the Best Para Clinical Award in the research show case organized at KGMU on Thursday. After the second wave of Covid, black fungus started being found in many patients. On this, Dr. Geeta Yadav, Additional Professor of Pathology Department, started looking for the reason. Meanwhile, samples of 62 different types of patients were taken. During this time it was seen that the main reason for black fungus is the effect of T-cells in the body.

Its effect was more in patients whose immunity declined rapidly. The reason for this was that immunity (T cells) suddenly became active and died after some time. Then they could not stop the black fungus. In such patients, black fungus reached a dangerous situation. Its effect was less in patients in whom immunity declined gradually. Indiscriminate use of steroids was found to be the reason for falling immunity in most of the patients. Dr. Geeta told that generally patients suffering from diabetes and HIV are at risk of black fungus. But in Covid patients, black fungus was found to be less dangerous than in HIV patients.
