Corona: Health department alerted after receiving letter from Centre, instructions to three hospitals to remain alert

The Union Health Ministry on Monday warned about the presence of JN.1 variant of Corona in the country. Within 24 hours of the warning given by the Central Government, a high level meeting was held in the State Health Department on Tuesday.

SOP issued for protection from Corona

This meeting took place in the presence of State Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam. Chief Health Officers of all the districts of the state, principals of medical colleges and hospital superintendents joined this meeting virtually. Apart from this, State Health Services Director Prof. Dr. Siddharth Niyogi and other officials were associated with this meeting. Let us tell you that, SOP has been issued by the Union Health Ministry for protection from Corona. However, after the said meeting, no guidelines have been issued by the state government to deal with Corona.

Meeting with Union Health Ministry today

It has been told by the Health Department that till now not a single case of this new variant has been reported in West Bengal. In this regard, State Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam said that there is a meeting with the Union Health Ministry today. West Bengal along with other states will participate in this meeting. The situation of Corona will be discussed in this meeting. Mr. Nigam said that we have also prepared SOP. It will be implemented at the right time. The Health Department claims that till now no Covid case has been found in the state.

ID and MR Bangur instructed to be ready

Isolation wards have been kept ready in Beleghata ID and MR Bangur in South Bengal and North Bengal Medical College. Earlier, the above three hospitals have played an important role in the treatment of Corona patients. Arrangements have been made for 50 beds in ID and about 30 beds in Bangur for the treatment of Corona. A special ward has been kept ready for the treatment of Corona patients in ID. On the instructions of the Health Ministry, mock drills have also been conducted in both these hospitals. Testing of CCU, ICU beds, medical oxygen pipeline has been completed in both these hospitals. According to the Union Health Ministry, in the last one month, 10 people have become victims of Covid in Kerala, while five have died. In such a situation, even though the state government has not issued SOP, experts are giving importance to compliance with Covid rules. Health department experts are emphasizing on using masks and maintaining physical distance during this festive season.
