CM Nitish saddened by the death of 4 laborers from Bihar in Thane lift accident, announced assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the dependents.

On Sunday, the lift of an under-construction multi-storey building in Balkum area of ​​Thane, Maharashtra fell down with a loud noise. A total of seven laborers died in this accident. Out of which six laborers lost their lives on the spot, while one laborer lost his life during treatment in the hospital. Four of the deceased were residents of Samastipur in Bihar. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep grief over this incident on Monday. He has announced compensation for the victim’s family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Announcement of giving ex-gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh each

CM Nitish Kumar has described this incident as very sad. The Chief Minister has prayed to God to grant patience and strength to the bereaved families of the laborers killed in this incident in this hour of grief. In this incident, the CM has announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of the deceased laborers of Bihar. Along with this, the Chief Minister has directed the Local Commissioner of Bihar in Delhi to take stock of the situation and provide all possible assistance and make all appropriate arrangements to take the mortal remains of the deceased laborers to their native villages.

Accident due to lift falling of under construction house

According to the information received, renovation work was going on in an under-construction 40-storey building in Thane. Water proofing work is also being done on the roof of this multi-storey building. All the workers working in the building were going down from the lift after finishing their work. Meanwhile, the elevator lift crashed and fell into P3 (third level underground area of ​​the parking).

How the lift cable broke, investigation is underway

According to Yasin Tadvi, head of disaster management of Thane Municipal Corporation, prima facie it seems that a supporting cable of the lift broke, due to which the accident occurred. He said that a team of Regional Disaster Management Cell and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and evacuated the workers from the underground parking. He said that it is not yet clear how the lift cable broke, investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Case registered against the contractor

Regarding this accident, Senior Police Inspector of Kapurbawdi police station, Uttam Sonawane, said that sections 304 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (act done by haste and carelessness), 337 (causing danger to the personal safety or life of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been registered against the contractor. A case has been registered under sections 338 (causing grievous hurt by endangering the life or personal safety of another) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by endangering the life or personal safety of another).

Went from Bihar to Maharashtra in search of employment on September 4.

It is said that due to the poor financial condition of the family, all the laborers had gone to Maharashtra from their village in Samastipur on September 4 to take up jobs. There is chaos in the family after this accident. Unable to bring the bodies of the deceased from Maharashtra, the families have appealed to the government for help.
