In Dumri, the land of former education minister and late Jagarnath Mahato, popularly known as Tiger, JMM’s dominance remained intact. AJSU had increased the excitement of the struggle, but Baby Devi, the candidate of India Alliance, was able to win by more than 17 thousand votes. Dumri’s fight was one-on-one. There was a fight between India and NDA. The traditional vote bank of JMM remained intact and Baby Devi got more than one lakh votes.
NDA’s eye was on the vote of Owaisi’s party AIMIM candidate. In this election, the factor of AIMIM was going to affect the result. But JMM laid siege to the Muslim vote bank. Owaisi’s party collapsed in Dumri. The party could not get as many votes as the number of people who came to listen to Owaisi during the election campaign.
The audience in the meeting applauded a lot, but NDA’s hopes were dashed. During the election campaign, it seemed that Owaisi might become an obstacle in the path of Baby Devi. Here, Nawadih block, which had a strong hold of late Jagarnath Mahato, supported him this time also. However, AJSU also showed its hold in some areas. AJSU could not make much headway in Dumri block. Which made JMM’s victory easy.
This by-election has given energy to the new alliance formed by UPA and India. Due to the result of Dumri, the stature of Chief Minister Hemant Soren has increased in this alliance. Its effect will be seen in the upcoming politics. With this victory in Jharkhand, Hemant has saved his reputation.
JMM retained its seat in all the by-elections, out of six by-elections, NDA won one.
After the assembly elections held in 2019, by-elections have been held on six assembly seats so far due to various reasons. JMM has saved its seat in all the by-elections. Dumka seat was vacated by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Here his brother Basant Soren won. Whereas in Madhupur, after the death of Haji Hussain Ansari, JMM won this seat. Late Haji Hussain’s son Hafizul Hasan Ansari became MLA from this seat. After the victory of Baby Devi in the Dumri by-election, JMM’s flag rose high. Here NDA could win only one election out of six by-elections. AJSU’s Sunita Devi made the NDA alliance win in the Ramgarh by-election. Congress suffered loss here. However, in Mandar and Bermo, the Congress managed to retain its seats in the by-elections.
