CM Dhami in action after Uttarkashi Tunnel accident, said- all tunnel projects will be reviewed

Uttarkashi All 41 laborers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel of the district for the last 17 days have been successfully rescued. The good thing is that all the workers are healthy. However, everyone has been brought to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for health checkup. Where he will remain under the supervision of a team of doctors for 48 hours. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has come into action regarding the accident. He has decided to review all the ongoing tunnel projects in the state.

All tunnel projects will be reviewed: CM Dhami

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told reporters, the state government has decided to review all the tunnel projects in the state. He further said, many such projects are going on in the state. We have decided to review them. We want development but there should be a balance between ecology and economy. Recently, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had also said that the government will conduct a safety audit of all the under-construction tunnels.

Dhami handed over a check of Rs 1 lakh each to the workers.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met the workers evacuated from the tunnel at Chinyalisaur Hospital on Wednesday and inquired about their well-being before they were admitted to AIIMS, Rishikesh. CM Dhami handed over a check of incentive amount of Rs 1 lakh to all the laborers. The Chief Minister also announced an incentive amount of Rs 50,000 each to the workers who dug by hand using ‘rat mining technique’ to lay pipes in the debris in the last round of the rescue operation to rescue the workers.

PM Modi also kept taking continuous updates of the rescue operation.

Speaking to the media, Dhami said that all the people are healthy and happy and he is thanking the people and agencies who tried to get them out of the tunnel. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was continuously paying attention to the rescue operation and he kept worrying about the workers like his own children, for this the workers also expressed their gratitude to him. The Chief Minister said that the world’s best efforts were made in this rescue operation.

How did the accident happen?

It is worth noting that 41 workers were trapped when a part of the four and a half kilometer long tunnel being built on the Chardham Yatra route collapsed on November 12. They were rescued safely on Tuesday after a rescue operation conducted on a war footing.
