Children aged one to six years, lodged with their mothers in the jails of Bihar, will now be able to get education. In this regard, Patna High Court has ordered the secretaries of the District Legal Services Authorities of all the districts to take action. Along with this, the DEO of the Education Department has also been asked to provide all possible cooperation in this matter. This case is being heard by the bench of Chief Justice KV Chandran.

State government also ordered to take action

On Tuesday, the division bench of Chief Justice Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Rajeev Roy also ordered the state government to take action in this matter. The court has given this order while adding to the action of educating 103 boys and 125 girls aged between one to six years lodged with their mothers in various jails of the state.

So many prisoners are in jail

Earlier during the hearing, the court was told that 50682 men and 2350 women are lodged as undertrial prisoners in the jails of the state. While 6995 men and 212 women are imprisoned as convicted prisoners.

Maximum 16 children each between the age of one to six are lodged in Bhagalpur Mahila Mandal Jail and Nawada Mandal Jail. Apart from this, 14 in Katihar Mandal Jail, 13 in Gaya Central Jail, 10 in Bettiah Mandal Jail, 9 in Beur Adarsh ​​Central Jail, 8 in Muzaffarpur Jail, 8 in Purnia Central Jail, 8 in Siwan Jail, 8 in Ara Jail, Sitamarhi Jail. 8 in Jahanabad Mandal Jail, 8 in Jehanabad Mandal Jail and 7 minor children in Darbhanga Mandal Jail are lodged with their mother. In this way, a total of 103 boys and 125 girls are lodged in the jails of the entire state.

Next hearing on December 7

The High Court has now ordered action to educate a total of 228 minors in this case and has fixed December 7, 2023 as the next hearing date on this case.
