Childhood Cancer Day: Four types of cancer are occurring in children, read the story of innocent people fighting the battle with cancer.

More than 700 children are undergoing treatment in the cancer departments of the city’s PMCH, IGIMS, NMCH and Patna AIIMS. Apart from this, 250 children are being treated in Mahavir Cancer Institute, Buddha Cancer Center and other private hospitals. Experts say that cancer is an incurable disease but it cannot end life. Cancer can be defeated in the battle of life with passion, confidence, awareness and support of loved ones. Every year, 15th February is International Children’s Cancer Day for prevention and awareness of childhood cancer.

According to doctors, four types of cancer are spreading among children. This includes cancer of acute leukemia, brain tumor, neuroblastoma and lymphoma. Experts say that cancer cases are less in children as compared to adults. Most cancers in children can be cured. Provided that it is identified on time. Most of the children treated here are registered with lymphoma and leukemia. Even Neuroblastoma cancer has been found in children below three years of age in the respective hospitals of Patna.

13 year old Anisha, resident of Patna, was suffering from sarcoma cancer. Presently Anisha is being treated by Additional Professor, Cancer Disease Department of IGIMS. Is running under the supervision of Dr. Shashi Pawar. After hearing about cancer, the family members did not lose courage. After which Dr. Pawar performed surgery and removed all the parts of the cancer. After this, after two years of chemotherapy, he is now completely fine.

12 year old Divyansh, resident of Munger district, was suffering from blood cancer. Father Sunil Kumar Rai told that when he first came to know that his son had blood cancer, he got scared. At one point it seemed everything was over. But even in these circumstances did not give up. The doctor in Munger directly referred me to Patna. Where the treatment was done under the supervision of Dr. Arvind Kumar of Buddha Cancer Center. Seeing Divyansh suffering during cancer treatment, my wife and I used to have tears in our eyes. But with strong will power, strong courage and the help of doctors, he defeated a serious disease like cancer.

Auto sold for cancer treatment, child misses education

13 year old Prince Kumar, resident of Begusarai district, is a student of class nine and today he is suffering from blood cancer. Father Subodh Mahato told that he is an auto driver by profession and has been treating his son for cancer for the last three years, he got him treated in many hospitals from Begusarai, till now Rs 7 lakh has been spent. The situation is such that the auto had to be sold and the loan has also been incurred. Mother Munni Devi told that with the help of Cancer Care and Cure Public Charitable Trust, the doctors adopted the child and now the treatment is going on free of cost. Six chemotherapy treatments have been done so far. The child’s health has improved by 50 percent. Even in this hour of grief, the entire family did not lose courage and is getting their son treated.

Burkitt’s lymphoma cancer was defeated with courage

Nine-year-old Vishal Kumar, resident of Bihta, was suffering from Burkitt Lymphoma cancer. Cancer had also spread to some parts of the intestine. Six family members told that they got scared after hearing about cancer but we did not lose courage. Brother, wife and my parents also gave courage to Vishal. He went through chemotherapy six times and now he is completely fine. After treatment, the child is now studying in school.

What treatment facilities are there in Patna?

Treatment facilities are available in the cancer departments of IGIMS, Patna AIIMS, PMCH and NMCH of the city. IGIMS has been developed as a regional cancer centre. Where all types of tests and treatment facilities are available. In all three hospitals except PMCH, cancer is being treated with the Cobalt machine. Whereas the machine in PMSH is broken. Apart from this, treatment facilities are available at Mahavir Cancer Institute.

Types of cancer in children

  • Leukemia- It is also called blood cancer. In this, the skin of children starts turning yellow.

  • Lymphoma- A lump or cyst forms in the body. In lymphoma, children start having problems like high fever and fatigue.

  • Neuroblastoma – This cancer occurs in newborns. Affects the upper part of the kidney.

  • Brain Tumor – Tumors start forming in the brain of children.
