Chhau Artist: Bokaro’s Chhau artist Parikshit Mahato will be honored with the President’s Award.

Chandankiyari, DN Thakur: Chhau dance artist Parikshit Mahato, resident of Khedabeda village of Chandankiyari block of Bokaro, will be honored with the President’s Award in Delhi on March 6. Parikshit Mahato has made Chandankiyari proud. After continuous struggle since 1982, he has made his mark at the national and international level. Born in an ordinary farmer family, Parikshit Mahato made Chhau, the regional folk art of Jharkhand, the basis of his life. He was born on 8 February 1966 in a Kudmi family. Father Late Rahni Mahato was from an ordinary farmer family, mother Late Ramani Devi was a housewife. Shri Mahato made Chhau his main profession and agriculture his livelihood.

Chandankiyari’s threat will increase on the national stage
With the honoring of Parikshit Mahato, Chandankiyari’s influence on the national stage in the field of art will increase. The credit for this goes to Sangeet Natak Academy Chhau Training Center Chandankiyari. Which is playing an important contribution in providing strong infrastructure facilities to the artists in the field of art. Let us tell you that the center was established by former Art Culture Minister of Jharkhand Government and current MLA Amar Bauri.

Parikshit Mahato’s primary education started in the village school in 1970 at the age of five. After studying from first class to fifth class, he got admission in sixth class high school, Barmasiya in 1977, from where he passed the matriculation examination in 1983. After enrolling for Intermediate in 1983, he left his studies midway. Shri Mahato’s interest in Chhau art increased and he formed a Chhau dance team with 30-40 people, which is running till today. He was also interested in football.
