Chhattisgarh: Angry bank employees went on mass leave, people were in trouble

Chhattisgarh Employees of District Cooperative Central Banks went on a two-day collective holiday from today in protest against the attack of a Congress MLA on his colleagues in Surguja division. Due to the holiday of the employees, people, especially farmers, who reached the bank to withdraw money, had to face trouble. Congress MLA Brihaspat Singh had allegedly beaten up two employees of District Cooperative Central Bank in Ramanujganj town of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district the day before yesterday, the video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Demand for action against MLA

The next day of the incident, employees of cooperative banks under Surguja division submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to the Inspector General of Police (Surguja Range) and demanded action against the MLA. The employees had declared a mass holiday for two days from today. In the video of the incident that is viral on social media, Singh can be seen thrashing two persons in front of the bank branch in Ramanujganj. Surguja division includes five districts including Balrampur-Ramanujganj. Cooperative banks play an important role in the purchase of paddy from farmers in the state and distribution of short-term agricultural loans to them.

Over 150 employees on two-day leave under protest

RK Khare, President of District Cooperative Central Bank Employees Union, Ambikapur, said that more than 150 employees of 30 branches of District Cooperative Central Banks in five districts of the division are on a two-day leave under protest. Khare told that the employees demonstrated in front of the bank’s headquarters in Ambikapur town, the headquarters of Surguja district. He said that All India Bank Employees Union and District Cooperative Banks of Chhattisgarh have supported their protest. Khare said- Transactions worth Rs 100 crore were affected on the first day of the protest. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers, especially farmers, and appeal to them to support us. He said- We have demanded action against the MLA and security for our employees. He warned of an indefinite strike if the demands are not met.

People outside bank branches upset due to bank closure

Here, outside the branches of the District Cooperative Bank at various places in Surguja division, people were seen upset due to the closure of the bank. Talking to reporters outside the bank’s Baikunthpur branch in Koriya district, Sheshmal, a resident of Chinguda village, said that his daughter is admitted in the hospital and he is in urgent need of money. He said that he was not aware of the strike. Brihaspat Singh, MLA from Ramanujganj assembly seat, allegedly thrashed clerk Rajesh Pal and peon Arvind Singh outside the bank in front of hundreds of farmers during office hours the day before yesterday.

Constant complaints forced him to take such a step

Brihaspat Singh had said that continuous complaints of irregularities against the employees of Ramanujganj’s cooperative bank forced him to take such a step. Singh accused the bank employees of misbehaving with the farmers and committing financial irregularities. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded Singh’s removal from the post of MLA for this act.
