Jharkhand News: The Jharkhand High Court heard a PIL filed in Dumka regarding water, generated electricity and administrative control of Masanjore Dam built on Mayurakshi river. A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice Anand Sen heard the side of the applicant, Central Government, West Bengal Government and Jharkhand Government during the hearing of the case. After the completion of the hearing in the case, the bench executed the case saying that the Central Government and the State Government should find a quick solution to this dispute.

Central and state government should take immediate steps

The State Government has written to the Central Government regarding the formation of Water Disputes Tribunal, so the Center should act on it as soon as possible and the State Government should also take immediate steps. Earlier, on behalf of the West Bengal government, the advocate of the Kolkata High Court, appearing for the case, said that this petition is not maintainable. There is a water dispute between the two states. Therefore, according to the law, the Government of India will have to form a tribunal. On the other hand, on behalf of the state government, advocate Piyush Chitresh said that a letter has been written to the central government to set up a tribunal in the year 2022.

Displaced people of Jharkhand, but they are not benefited

At the same time, advocate Diwakar Upadhyay told on behalf of the applicant that the dam is spread over 16,650 acres. This dam is 155 feet high and 2170 feet long. It was built in 1955. It has been constructed by displacing the people of Jharkhand, but the people of Jharkhand do not get its benefit. The administrative control of the dam should be handed over to Jharkhand.

Godda MP had filed a public interest litigation

In the year 1978, there was an agreement between the unified Bihar and West Bengal, according to which water was to be given from Masanjore Dam for irrigation in Dumka and other districts of unified Bihar (now Jharkhand), but this is not being done. Advocate Prashant Pallav presented the side on behalf of the Central Government. It is noteworthy that the PIL was filed by the applicant Godda MP Dr. Nishikant Dubey.
