Lucknow: On Monday, UP STF arrested 04 members of Halal Council of India, an organization that extorts money from various companies by issuing illegal Halal certificates. All the accused are residents of Mumbai Maharashtra. During enquiry, it was revealed that the Halal certificate is issued fraudulently. Lab test of any product is not done. People are being cheated by giving only Halal.
According to UP STF, Maulana Habib Yusuf Patel R/o 388/A Scots Colony Chincholi Goat, Near Patel Masjid Suburban Mumbai Maharashtra (President), Maulana Muidsir Sapadia S/O Iqbal Sapadia B-303 Firdous Park SV Road Nex Sabri Masjid Jogeshwari West Maharashtra (Vice President) , Mo. Tahir Zakir Hussain s/o Zakir Hussain 1204/1304 Heel Park B-1 Tower Capt. Suresh Samanta Marg Jogeshwari West Mumbai (General Secretary) and Mohammad Anwar s/o Mohammad Ali Khan r/o 202/Ch Green Lawns, Kapda Bazaar Road Mumbai Maharashtra (Treasurer) arrested. Has been done.
Wrongly issued certificates
In this case, Halal India Private Limited Chennai, Jimayat Ulema Hind Halal Trust Delhi, Halal Council of India Mumbai etc. had wrongly issued certificates on various products with the aim of increasing their sales. A case has been registered in Hazratganj police station in this matter. Which was being investigated by STF Deputy SP Deepak Kumar Singh and Inspector Tejbahadur Singh. In this sequence, the President, Vice President, General Secretary and Treasurer of Halal Council of India Mumbai were called to the STF office to record their statements.
No government agency has authorized it
During interrogation of all the accused, it was revealed that Halal Council of India Mumbai was illegally issuing Halal certificates on other food items besides meat and meat products. For this, rupees are taken from different companies per certificate and per product every year. Out of which approximately Rs 10 thousand is charged for certificate and Rs 1 thousand per product. Halal Council of India Mumbai has not been authorized to issue Halal certificate from NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies) or any other government body.
Lab test of any product was not done
Not only this, these people issue Halal certificates to companies to sell their products in the country and abroad. For which it is not authorized. During enquiry, it was revealed that after interrogating the owners and employees of the companies having Halal certificate issued by Halal Council of India, Mumbai, it was revealed that lab test of any product has not been done for issuing Halal certificate. These people did not come to the company and take samples of any product for testing. Nor did any member come to the company for questioning.
Extortion by giving only ‘Halal’ logo
During enquiry, it was revealed that consumers of Halal products are being extorted by giving them only ‘Halal’ logo without any investigation and without any lab test. At the same time, a different type of financial burden is being unnecessarily imposed on the companies. During investigation, information was also found that restaurants etc. have also been given Halal certificate. Whereas they have no control over the way food is prepared and the items available in the restaurant. This shows that these people arbitrarily issue Halal certificates just for the purpose of taking money. UP STF said that the accused could not provide any information about the income and expenditure received from this illegal business. After interrogation, all the accused were arrested.
