Bus carrying wedding procession fell into NSP canal in Andhra Pradesh, seven people died

Darcy: In Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, a bus carrying wedding processions fell into a canal late on Monday night, killing seven people and injuring several others. According to the information given by the police, the incident took place on the outskirts of Darsi when the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus carrying about 45 wedding processions fell into the NSP canal. Police said that five women, a man and a six-year-old girl traveling in the bus died on the spot in the accident.

Accident happened while trying to save from collision with private bus

Prakasam district Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallika Garg said that the driver of the APSRTC bus, while trying to avoid hitting a private bus coming from the opposite direction, lost control of the vehicle, causing the APSRTC bus to fall into the canal. He said that the bus also hit a pole before falling into the canal. The bus driver who survived the accident said that the steering of the bus had stopped working and the brakes had also failed.

Another bus came in front of the bus from the front

The Superintendent of Police said that the driver of the APSRTC bus lost control of the vehicle after crossing one of the two bridges when a private bus from the front suddenly entered his lane. He said that according to the initial reports, the cause of death in the accident was suffocation, as those who were sitting on the front seats could not bear the weight of other passengers who fell on them from the rear.

Other passengers including the driver came out by breaking the glasses of the windows

According to the Superintendent of Police, the bus driver, Khalasi and other passengers who survived the accident got out of the vehicle by breaking the window panes. He told that at least 18 people have been injured in the accident, who have been admitted to a hospital in Ongole. The condition of all the injured is said to be stable. According to the Superintendent of Police, a crane was sent to the spot to rescue the people trapped in the bus.

Driver booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder

A family from Podili had hired an APSRTC bus to go to Kakinada to attend a marriage function. These people had boarded the bus on Monday late night at around 12.35 am and after about 15 minutes when they reached the outskirts of Darsi, they met with the accident. On the basis of preliminary investigation, the police has ruled out the possibility of the driver driving the bus after drinking alcohol. He has intensified the investigation of the accident by registering a case under Section-304 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

CM Jaganmohan Reddy gave instructions for treatment

An official release issued by the office of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy said that the Chief Minister has expressed grief over the accident. According to the release, the Chief Minister has directed the officials to make arrangements for proper treatment of the injured.
