The Bombay High Court has rejected actress Kangana Ranaut’s plea seeking a stay on the criminal defamation case filed against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar in 2020 and the case being later filed against her in a cross- A request was made to add it to the complaint.
Justice Prakash Naik passed the order and said that the proceedings could not be stayed or clubbed, as Kangana never argued that the cases were cross-cases, and despite this, Javed Akhtar’s complaint was filed first.
He said, “The relief sought in the petition cannot be granted at this stage. Earlier it was never argued on behalf of the petitioner (Kangana) that both the cases are cross cases.”
While the defamation case filed by Javed Akhtar against Kangana Ranaut is going on before the Magistrate in Andheri, Kangana’s complaint against Javed Akhtar was stayed by the Sessions Court.
In her writ petition, the actress said that both the cases had their origin in a meeting in 2016, hence they should be tried together.
However, Javed Akhtar strongly opposed Kangana’s petition, calling it another attempt to delay the defamation case. He told that Kangana had filed nine different legal challenges or petitions before various courts, all of which were rejected. Following these dismissals, he filed a counter-complaint containing false, fabricated and fabricated allegations.
Let us tell you that on November 3, Javed Akhtar filed a complaint before the magistrate, alleging that Kangana had defamed the “impeccable reputation” of actor Sushant Singh Rajput by dragging his name into his death in an interview on July 19, 2020. Did and caused harm. The actress is facing trial in the case under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.
In 2021, Kangana hit back by filing a counter-complaint against Javed Akhtar in the same Mumbai court, accusing him of criminal intimidation and insulting modesty under sections 506 and 509 of the IPC based on the 2016 incident. During the 2016 meeting, Kangana alleged that Akhtar criminally threatened her while demanding an apology from her co-star.
Mumbai Court took cognizance of Kangana Ranaut’s complaint and issued summons to Akhtar. She challenged this order in the Sessions Court, which stayed the proceedings against Kangana’s complaint till the disposal of her revision petition. Meanwhile, Akhtar’s defamation case against the actress is still going on in the Mumbai Magistrate Court.
