Apart from this, Sachin Tendulkar has given a separate scholarship of Rs 1 crore 1 lakh to the board (five players). Chandan Kumar is also included in that. According to Chandan, while presenting the award, Sachin Tendulkar and Vijay Kambli also assured him that very soon he will get a chance to play in ISPL and IPL also. Chandan told that this time he was supposed to play in ISPL, but due to some reason he could not play. Told that this time the team of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Ramcharan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Surya is playing in Tennis Ball ISPL.

Chandan has been fond of cricket since childhood. He used to practice by playing cricket with boys in the village grounds. He used to travel long distances on foot to participate even in small village level tournaments. He has also played several times in the Prahari Cup cricket tournament held in Khairachatar. In this sequence, he stayed in the trainee hostel of Bokaro and received training for two years. His father Manoj Kumar Mahato supports the family by farming. Mother Malti Devi is a housewife. Chandan is the eldest among two brothers and one sister. He started playing amid financial constraints in his family. The family is proud of their son’s talent. Chandan’s parents say that if necessary, they will even sell their land to take their son to the top in the world of cricket.
