Bokaro: The story of the beginning of Kali Puja in Madhukarpur is interesting, the puja started years ago.

Deepak Question, Kasmar: There is an interesting story or incident behind the history of Kali Puja i.e. its beginning in Madhukarpur of Kasmar block. In other words, the worship of Maa Kali was started here to get rid of the crime of Brahmahatya. Actually, Tiwari family has been settled in Madhukarpur for centuries. Anand Tiwari is said to have arrived here first. Wherever the Tiwari family went, their Thakurji (the throne of the idol of Vanshidhar Shri Krishna) always remained with them. In this sequence, Thakurbari was also constructed in Madhukarpur. Thakurji used to serve there daily. Bhog, aarti and puja were the daily routine. Meanwhile, in the spirit of public welfare, around 1800, the Tiwari family brought the place of Baba Bhayharan from Chamsobad village near Chas to their Thakurbari. He also started being worshiped along with Thakurji. It is said that like in Chamsobad, here also on the day of Rath Yatra or any special puja, when Bhayaharan Baba meditated, his influence would come upon the priest. Then he was given a pot of water in his hand. With it he used to offer Arghya to the Sun. After this, whoever asked him about his wishes, along with his thoughts, he would also tell the solution to any kind of problem. The solution given by him was effective. Due to this, people’s faith and crowd started increasing. Around 1850-1890, some people started satirizing it by calling it Kamal Tiwari’s business. Many people also started taking fear test. Meanwhile, one day a Bagalgir Maithil Brahmin, with the intention of testing him at the time of Bhava, told Bhayaharan Baba that if all four of his sons die today itself, only then will they accept that Bhayaharan is truly a god and his Bhaav is correct. Bhayaharan requested a lot to take some other exam. This trial of Brahma-murder is not appropriate. But he did not agree. Finally Bhayaharan said, go, it will happen like this. As soon as he said this, his emotions ended that day. He also said that now I will not stay at this place. Place it somewhere else, brahma murder has taken place here.

The very next day, Kamal Tiwari left that locality and went to another locality along with Bhayaharan’s Peedha and Thakurji, where his uncle Bhikshuk Tiwari used to live. Kamal Tiwari, who lived in front of his house, built a two-room house and installed Thakurji’s throne and Bhayaharan Baba’s Peedha. According to Ramkumar Tiwari, a retired lecturer of the village, the old Thakurbari was lying vacant after that incident. The villagers were not liking this. People decided to install Maa Kali there. Said, by worshiping Kali one can be freed from the taint of Brahmahatya. After this, Kali Puja started in the same old Thakurbari. The Tiwari family got the responsibility of worship. The worship was public, but the maintenance and worship was the responsibility of the Tiwari family. Later, the villagers removed the mud house and built a temple made of brick and cement.

There has been a practice of sacrifice in Kali Puja here since early times. The Tiwari family has been looking after Kali Puja since 1881. However, it is also heard that for some days public puja was also done by the villagers by making donations. But after a few years, due to lack of control, the responsibility was given to the Tiwari family. Tiwari people also used to collect donations and worship them with great devotion and dedication. But after almost a hundred years (after 1996), seeing the difficulty in collecting donations, in 2017 the Tiwari family handed over the entire responsibility of Kali Puja to the village. The villagers accepted it happily. Now it has taken the form of a grand and attractive temple and worship is done here with great pomp.

Committee formed to make the puja successful
