New Delhi : Germany’s bar maker Bamvian Motor Works (BMW) has recently launched the X5 Protection VR6, a safer variant of its X5 SUV. It is such an armored SUV that it can fumble even when bombs and shells come near it and it takes out its passengers safely from the risk of life. The company claims that it can also withstand hand grenades and up to 15 kg of TNT, while the lower part can withstand hand grenade blasts. Let us see how strong the X5 Protection VR6 is made to withstand such high powered explosives.
BMW X5 Protection VR6 : Body
The chassis of the BMW X5 Protection V6 now comes with a reinforced body shell, while all its exterior panels and boot box are armoured. It also has strong underbody plates. Additionally, the 33 mm thick windshield and glass panels keep you covered from the inside. The company’s new armed SUV X5 VR6 has been launched with tremendous security features. The new BMW X5 Protection V6 comes with bulletproof armed protection. The company has unveiled it before presenting it at the Munich Auto Show in Germany.
BMW X5 Protection V6 : Design
The company is already selling the X5 SUV. The company has not made any changes in the design of its armed version. BMW’s signature kidney grille, roof rails and dual pipe exhaust have been given in this car. To make the car armed, the company has used high strength steel and armored plating in it.

To protect the car from land mine blasts and grenade attacks, an aluminum splinter shield has been fitted at the bottom. At the same time, 33 mm polycarbonate reinforced glass has been used to make the windows bulletproof. The company has also equipped this car with post blast protection which protects the passengers from second attack after a bomb or grenade attack. The car has electric windows only for the driver.

The interiors of the car are similar to the standard X5, but it gets a host of additional safety features that are not available on the production cars. For instance, the bootspace has also been made armored which provides an extra layer of protection for the rear seat passengers.
Even bombs and shells will be wasted
BMW claims that the armored X5 protection can protect its occupants from a wide variety of ammunition and bombs including AK-47. It is capable of providing protection against explosions weighing up to 15 kg from a distance of four meters. The company has not told how much the X5 Protection weighs more than the standard X5.
BMW X5 Proton V6 : Engine
Powering the BMW X5 Protection V6 is the same 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that powers the standard BMW X5 M60i xDrive. This engine is mated to a 48-V mild-hybrid system to generate 515 Bhp of peak power and 750 Nm of peak torque. The car brand has not revealed the weight of the X5 Protection, but there is some extra weight on the armor plates, which is affecting the performance. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, which is much lower than the 4.2 seconds timing of the M60i. However, it matches the performance of the previous armored X5. The suspension and braking system of the SUV has also been re-tuned to handle the extra weight.
