Blood component separation unit not started in Sadar Hospital, Gumla even after two years

Jolly Vishwakarma, Gumla: Blood component separation unit is to be established in Sadar Hospital Gumla campus. The foundation stone was laid online on June 14, 2021, but even after more than two years, neither the building of the Blood Component Separation Unit has been constructed nor its equipment has been purchased. Due to the operation of Blood Component Separation Unit in Sadar Hospital Gumla, the life of the patient can be saved by arranging blood according to the blood deficiency in the patients. Even in case of dengue, patients can be saved by arranging platelets. But even after two years this work has not materialized. For this reason, patients coming to Sadar Hospital due to blood deficiency have to undergo complete blood transfusion.

If a blood component separation unit had been started, then after examining his blood, his deficiencies could have been known and the component lacking in his blood could have been rectified by transfusion. If this unit is started, then if a person donates blood for a patient, that person will be given the missing component in his blood. It could have been cured by transfusion of blood from the same person to two patients, which would have been beneficial for the district.

Blood component separation necessary in Gumla: Muktesh

Lab technician Muktesh Oraon, who received training to conduct blood component separation, said that the blood of any blood donor is divided into three cells, which include platelets, plasma and RBC. For this reason, blood donated by one person can be transfused to three patients. With this, blood deficiency could be removed. Also, the patient does not need whole blood transfusion. He said that at present the outbreak of dengue has increased in the district. If there is platelet deficiency in dengue patients, then the number of platelets in their body could be increased by giving only platelets to those patients, but due to non-operation of blood component separation unit, this process could not be done in Gumla Sadar Hospital.

Efforts are being made to construct the building: CS

Gumla Civil Surgeon Dr. Raju Kachhap said that the foundation stone was laid online by the CM. But the blood bank is still pending due to the engineers saying that it will not be renovated on the upper floor. He told that there is a place near the blood bank which has been selected by the health department and building construction. The construction work of the building of Blood Component Separation Unit will start soon at the said site. The building will be operated only after it is constructed.
