BJP fields Dilip Verma in Gandey by-election

Ranchi: BJP has made Dilip Kumar Verma its candidate for Gandey by-election. The BJP central leadership on Friday announced the candidates for the by-elections for one assembly seat each in Jharkhand and Rajasthan. National General Secretary and Headquarters in-charge Arun Singh has released the list of candidates. Shri Verma is a minister in the state committee. He had earlier contested elections from Gandey on JVM ticket.

Here, after the name of the candidate in Gandey by-election came out, AJSU has expressed objection. AJSU said that Verma is a candidate of BJP and not of NDA. AJSU President said that the matter of BJP fielding a candidate in Gandey has come to light. There has been no consensus in the NDA regarding this. He will take this matter to NDA. On Friday, AJSU Parliamentary Board has expressed its disagreement on making candidates in this manner.

On behalf of the Parliamentary Board, it has been said that Dilip Verma had secured nine thousand votes by contesting the elections from Gandey. AJSU candidate got more votes than Dilip Verma. It is noteworthy that by-election on this seat is to be held on May 20. The Election Commission will issue a notification regarding the by-election on April 26. At the same time, the last date for nomination will be May 3. The counting of by-elections will take place along with the results of the Lok Sabha elections on June 4.

This seat became vacant after the resignation of JMM MLA Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed. Dr. Ahmed had sent his resignation to the Assembly on January 1. Meanwhile, JMM is preparing to field Kalpana Soren, wife of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, from this seat. Mrs. Soren can be a joint candidate of India Alliance.
