BJD leaders Samantre and Khuntia will be Rajya Sabha candidates, BJP also released the list of candidates from Rajasthan.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has announced the candidates of Biju Janata Dal for the Rajya Sabha elections today i.e. on Monday. Party president Naveen Patnaik has declared former Biju Janata Dal MLA Debashish Samantre and BJD leader Subhashish Khuntia as the party’s candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Let us tell you, the tenure of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and BJD leaders Prashant Nanda and Amar Patnaik in Rajya Sabha is ending in April. The party has announced its candidates on two seats. But, BJD has not yet made any announcement regarding the third seat.

BJP announced two names from Rajasthan
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday declared Chunnilal Garasia and Madan Rathore as candidates from Rajasthan for the Rajya Sabha elections. The candidature of both was announced in a list released by the party. It was told that the Central Election Committee of the party has approved the names of both. Garasia, who comes from the tribal community, is a former minister of the state government while Rathod is a former MLA. Madan Rathod has been MLA twice from Sumerpur assembly seat of Pali. He became MLA for the first time in 2003. In 2013, he reached the Assembly as MLA for the second time. From 2013 to 2018, he was the Deputy Chief Whip in the BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje. It is noteworthy that Chunnilal Garasia is a former minister and has held many positions in the organization. Garasia is currently the state vice president of BJP.

Voting for three seats of Rajya Sabha is to be held in Rajasthan Assembly on 27th February. According to the number of candidates from BJP, Congress, Independents and other parties, the victory of two candidates from the state’s ruling party and one from Congress is considered certain. BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Kirori Lal Meena had resigned from the post of MP in December after being elected as MLA. BJP has not made Bhupendra Yadav a Rajya Sabha candidate this time and there is speculation that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections. In the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, BJP has 115 members and Congress has 70 members. In case of a contest, at least 67 votes will be required to win a seat.
