Along with this, a warning board or sign board should be installed about 40 meters before the speed breaker to inform the driver about the speed breaker.

According to a BBC report, in European countries there is a rule to make speed breakers at a distance of about 80 meters in residential colonies, but in India there is no standard set for this. However, if speed breakers are made in residential areas, then permission has to be taken from the Public Works Department or Municipal Corporation. According to the instructions of the Public Works Department, it is illegal to have even the smallest speed breakers on the streets of any city in India.
