Birsa Munda jail administration withdraws petition from Jharkhand High Court, know the whole matter

Jharkhand News: Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Central Jail Administration has withdrawn the petition challenging the PMLA court’s order in the matter of CCTV footage. The date of hearing on this petition filed in the High Court was fixed on June 28. Now the jail administration is bound to give CCTV footage to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the light of the PMLA court’s direction.

ED had demanded CCTV footage

Please inform that ED had demanded CCTV footage from Birsa Munda jail administration. During the hearing on the issue of CCTV in the PMLA court, Jail Superintendent Hamid Akhtar opposed the ED’s demand. It was argued on behalf of the jail administration that the CCTV footage is related to the security of the jail and the privacy of the prisoners. That’s why CCTV footage cannot be given to ED. It was also said that the footage sought by the ED must have been erased. The jail administration is trying to recover the data of CCTV footage sought by ED.

Challenge in the High Court against the order of the PMLA court

During the hearing, the ED, citing the provisions contained in the PML, said that the investigating officer has the legal right to keep an eye on the accused of money laundering, whether he is in jail or elsewhere. After hearing the case, the PMLA court said in its decision that illegal work cannot be hidden from the law of right to privacy. Jail administration handed over CTV footage to ED. In the light of this order of the PMLA court, the jail administration had challenged the order of the PMLA court in the High Court in lieu of providing CCTV footage.

Jail administration did not give CCTV footage as per demand

The jail administration submitted the CCTV footage to the PMLA court on June 27 in the light of the order of the PMLA court. However, the ED has sent summons to the Jail Superintendent and the Jailer, stating that it is not as per their demand. Both have been directed to appear for questioning on June 30.
