Bihar’s focus on village development, amount spent four percent more than the national average

Patna. The 18th Economic Survey was presented on the table of the Assembly by the State Government. In this, complete details of the works conducted by the Rural Development Department were presented. It was told by the government that in the year 2022-23, Rs 15456.5 crore was spent on rural development in the state. About 6.5 percent of the total budget was spent on rural development. However, this year the amount of expenditure has decreased compared to the last four years. 7.12 percent amount was spent in the year 2021-22, 9.44 percent in the year 2020-21, 9.19 percent in the year 2019-20 and 7.96 percent in the year 2018-19. However, more money was spent in Bihar than the national average. Only 3.45 percent amount has been spent at the national level for rural development.

Number of job cards decreased in MNREGA, employment increased

The number of job cards in MNREGA has decreased this year as compared to last year 2021-22. Last year a total of 235.3 lakh job cards were made. In the year 2022-23 it has reduced to 167.01 lakh. The number of people getting employment has increased this year compared to last year. 50.17 lakh families got work in 2022-23 and 48 lakh families got work in the year 2021-22. Of these, 0.4 percent families got employment for 100 days. The number of women getting employment under MNREGA has increased. The percentage of women working in MNREGA last year was 53.2 percent. In the year 2022-23, this figure will increase to 56.3 percent. In comparison to last year, less work has been completed under MNREGA in the year 2022-23. While 13 lakh works were completed in the year 2021-22, only 10.9 lakh works could be completed in the year 2022-23.

Under the alternative banking model, transactions worth Rs 10,742.07 crore were done through 5006 bank sakhis. Fish farming has been started by self-help groups in 109 blocks in 32 districts. On behalf of Jeevika, community libraries cum career development centers have been established in 100 blocks of 32 districts.
