[ad_1]

The Central Government’s ambitious ‘Urja Ganga’ pipeline project is now ready to supply cheap gas to the country’s eastern states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. Official sources gave this information on Wednesday. Traditionally, natural gas has been used for electricity and fertilizer production. It is also converted into vehicle fuel CNG and cooking gas PNG. Till now this gas was available only in western and northern regions. The reason for this is that the pipeline carrying the gas from the source to the users was limited to these areas only. Explain that gas pipeline is the cheapest means of transportation of gas.

Increased acceptance of clean fuel

Jagdishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra Pipeline (JHBDPL) is called Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline. Sources said that public sector GAIL (India) Limited was authorized to lay JHBDPL for gas transportation in the eastern states of India. The ‘Urja Ganga’ pipeline project has helped in taking the benefits of cheaper natural gas prices to the hinterland of the country. This has also increased the acceptance of clean fuel in the country.

Consumers will get cheap CNG and PNG

This pipeline will help supply cheaper CNG and PNG to consumers in the eastern regions of the country after the government’s decision to reduce natural gas prices. Due to this, the consumers of 20 towns and cities are getting the benefit of reduction in gas prices by about Rs 5-7. The Government has provided Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of 40 percent for the implementation of JHBDPL. This amount works out to Rs 5,176 crore.

The work of laying the pipeline started in 2016

In October 2016, the work of laying a 2,655-km pipeline from Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh to Haldia in West Bengal, Bokaro in Jharkhand and Dhamra in Odisha began. Later this line was extended from Barauni in Bihar to Guwahati in Assam. This length is about 726 kilometers. Its purpose was to deliver gas to the untouched states of the East.

Work underway on Barauni-Guwahati pipeline

GAIL is also laying Barauni-Guwahati pipeline under JHBDPL which will act as a source for Northeast Gas Grid Pipeline. The Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline will connect the entire geographical area of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and further north-eastern region of the country.
