Bihar Weather Report: Cold wave is going on in Bihar. Information has been received from the Meteorological Department that there will be no respite from the severe cold at present. Angkshetra and Seemanchal including Bhagalpur and Purnia are also experiencing bone-chilling cold. The minimum temperature is being recorded below 10 degrees. The cold conditions remained severe even on Thursday. People remained hiding in their homes. The Meteorological Department has said that there will be no relief for at least three days.
Cold wave and severe cold continue in Bhagalpur.
Cold wave and severe cold continued in Bhagalpur district on Thursday also. People did not see sunlight for the fifth consecutive day. The cold westerly wind continued to blow throughout the day. People remained hiding in their homes in the cold. Bonfires and heaters kept burning in homes to get relief from the cold. For the third consecutive day, the maximum temperature in the district remained below 15 degrees at 14.7 degrees. The minimum temperature recorded in the morning was 10 degrees. The difference between maximum and minimum temperatures was less than five degrees. Light drizzle also occurred in the southern blocks of the district and Banka district in the morning. There was a layer of fog from evening till morning.
Severe cold forecast in Bhagalpur till January 22
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Nodal Officer of Rural Agriculture Meteorological Service of BAU Sabour, said that severe cold will continue in Bhagalpur between January 19 and 22. The temperature is likely to increase from January 23. There will be fog in the morning, during this time the western wind will continue to blow. Cold wave conditions may persist during this period. The sky may remain light cloudy on January 19. The situation of air pollution in the district was very bad. The air quality index of Mayaganj area of the city was 383.
Cold day conditions in Purnia
Cold wave is not showing signs of stopping in Purnia district. The situation has become worse due to absence of sunlight for the fourth consecutive day. People are shivering due to the cold westerly wind. Everyone, common and special, is shivering due to the melting cold. According to weather experts, there will be no respite from the cold. The Meteorological Department has predicted that cold day conditions will persist from Friday 19 to 24 January. During this period, the temperature may drop by two to three degrees, while the temperature is likely to be 10 degrees below normal.
How long will the cold day situation last?
According to the precautionary advisory issued by the Meteorological Department for the winter day, icy cold westerly and north-westerly winds are expected to flow again in the lower troposphere from January 19. Along with this, jet stream winds of the order of 140-160 knots prevail over the plains of North India at 12.6 km above sea level. Due to its effect, the situation of cold day may continue till 24 January 2024.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature recorded in Purnia on Thursday was 14.2 and minimum 11.0 degrees Celsius. But if seen, there is a real feeling of minimum temperature of six to seven degrees on the roads outside the houses. Earlier on Wednesday, the maximum temperature of Purnia was recorded at 13.4 and minimum temperature was 10.5 degrees Celsius, whereas on Tuesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 13.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 10.5 degrees Celsius.
Coldest in Forbesganj of Araria
The cold wave continues in Seemanchal. On Thursday, an increase in the minimum temperature was recorded in 25 cities of Bihar including Patna. A decrease was recorded in the minimum temperature of 21 cities. People are facing severe cold during the day. On Thursday, the coldest area of the state was Forbesganj of Araria where the minimum temperature was recorded at 7 degrees.
